STYLE INSPIRATION

COME ON PUSSYCAT
I've recently been lucky enough to interview Carinthia West (you can read my article in the next edition of Edge Magazine). Carinthia was a model, actress, photographer and writer, ex-girlfriend of Mick Jagger and all-round 70s girl-about-town. She told me quite a few stories of her modelling days but she made me laugh most when she described David Bailey (talented guy who basically invented modern photography), pointing his camera at her, and pleading 'come on, pussycat, come on'. So when I heard about the TV film on the love affair between Jean Shrimpton and David Bailey, I rushed to find out when it was being broadcast. It has already been played on BBC 4. CRAP. But never fear, iPlayer never lets me down and therefore, tonight Matthew, I shall be watching We'll Take Manhattan.

Here are a few snaps of Jean, by David.

GOLDEN GLOBES
I always catch snippets of the awards season. I get so sick of the 'fashion police' criticising all the dresses I actually liked. I'm not a fan of ball gowns or prom dresses, it's just not my thing. So, I want to give props to the ladies who managed to stay cool and edgy whilst surrounded by the classic attire which seems to still be so popular with the best dressed list makers. Screw them. Here are my picks.

ROONEY MARA in Nina Ricci

I like the darkness she brought to the Golden Globes. The black dress against her ivory skin; she looks like the star of a silent movie. The hair is a nod to the Eton crop of the 20s and I'm kind of even liking the Cruella Deville character in the background.

MICHELLE WILLIAMS in Jason Wu

She's on the worst dressed list time and time again but I love this midnight blue colour on her. My favourite thing about Michelle Williams is that it's so obvious that she dresses for herself. I admire that. Plus, she is a fantastic actress and she won the award for her performance in My Week With Marilyn. Oh my, her speech was so cute. Watch it here.

A belt with an eagle on it? What's not to like?

HOLE LOTTA LOVE

I relish any excuse to have a fresh start. So, Happy New Year and happy new me! I won't bore you with my usual list of Bridget Jones style resolutions but I will say this: 2012 is going to be nothing like 2011.

I've been swooning over interior design lately, which is pretty ironic considering I've moved back in with my parents with no foreseeable opportunity of ever having my own place haha. Well, a girl can dream. Hell, by the time I do manage to move out, I'll have so many ideas and collectors items, it'll be worth the wait. Anyways, I've been admiring sf girl by bay for a long while now, it's like a bohemian wonderland over there. I fell in love with the pictures of Courtney Love's home, taken by Peter Murdock. I find the concept really interesting. It's controversial, light and dark, like Courtney. Take the virginal lace dresses hanging in the stairwell; beautiful yet eery.
