TILL VICTORY

Sometimes I find myself researching pretty random stuff on the internet. Today, I was combining my love of retro style and art history. I figure, as long as I'm learning something new then it doesn't matter that two hours have passed on the sofa. So...somehow I got onto looking at war posters. I love the illustrations and the vintage styles. I even tried out victory curls for the first time.

I think it's important to remember that the roles women played in the two world wars have done a great deal to shape the roles women play in our society today. With men fighting for survival on the front line, women were left to fill in for them back home. Entrusted with this mammoth task, the women in the war effort proved that they could work like men.

This is my absolute favourite; actually an anti-war campaign, to raise money for the draft resistance during the Vietnam War. The concept is inspired by an ancient Greek play in which the women of Athens and Sparta withheld sex from their partners until they made peace. This story was used in conjuncture with the tagline 'I like men who carry guitars, not guns'. My sentiments exactly.
